Sponsorship

The Children’s Sunshine Home

In 2005, we began supporting fundraising events to raise money for the Children’s Sunshine Home to develop 4 new 8-bed units to provide residential and respite care for the terminally ill children. One of these units will be dedicated to specialist palliative care including family accommodation.

In both 2005 and 2006, Canada Life were delighted to sponsor the Canada Life Tiger Trust Garden Party in aid of The Children’s Sunshine Home. Our sponsorship was key to enabling this event to take place and we are very proud to be involved. The Garden Party was an important fundraising event for the Children’s Sunshine Hospice Project and we were delighted that over €300,000 was raised through this event.

As with any large business, the easy part is writing the cheque but our fundraising and association extends beyond that through other fundraising activities we have planned to raise more money for the Children’s Sunshine Hospice Project.

The response of the Canada Life employees to our sponsorship of the Children’s Sunshine Home has been amazing and the staff have taken it upon themselves to organise fund raising events such as coffee mornings & race nights. Individual staff members have donated money they themselves won at table quizzes and other events. Some have even taken part in a triathlon to raise money for this event.

National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI)

In 2007, Canada Life sponsored the ‘Into the West’ cycle challenge to raise monies for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute. The challenge was to cycle the 300km round trip from Mullingar to Galway and back over two days with all standards of cyclists catered for. Over the last twelve years, the event has raised almost half a million euro and this year it hopes to raise up to €100,000 for this worthy cause.

This event was the biggest yet, with more participants than the ‘Tour De France’ all sporting Canada Life/NBCRI bright pink cycling jerseys.

Commenting on this challenge, Mark Shannon, Regional Director of Sales, Canada Life said “The Into the West Canada Life Cycle was a tremendous success with over 250 people participating. The weather held out and everybody had a great weekend completing the 300km return trip from Mullingar to Galway. Canada Life was particularly delighted to sponsor this event being the first company in Ireland to bring in critical illness cover. We look forward to working closely with NBCRI in the future.”

Environmental Responsibilities

Canada Life is committed to protecting and preserving our environment by working in a number of ways to reduce emissions and to create an overall healthy and safe environment for now and the future.

Managing our Waste

Working in conjunction with our waste management company we strive to minimise the amount of waste being produced and focus on reducing, reusing and recycling. A Recycling Campaign Group was set up in 2004 to reduce quantity of waste being sent to landfill by allowing for improved recovery through increased segregation of waste. Colour coded bins have assisted in increasing the amount of items recycled daily. Paper, batteries, cardboard, toners, monitors and keyboards are just some of the items that we currently recycle.

Well-Being Campaign

Supporting and initiating Health and Safety Practices at work Canada Life is proud to announce the introduction of a new Well-Being Programme for employees of the company which will run throughout the year. The primary purpose of the programme is to raise awareness of Well-Being issues and provide everyone with information and knowledge within the company. We want to create a ‘Good Life with Canada Life’ and will be focusing on four key areas; Mental well-being, Nutritional well-being, Physical well-being and Health and Safety.
