I graduated from University College Dublin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial and Financial Studies. My degree incorporated exemptions from the professional exams of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, so I continued to pursue these studies whilst working with Canada Life. I recently received my qualification as an Actuary.
Having gained experience in life assurance from my work placement in college, I was interested in following a career in Actuarial and applied for the position of actuarial trainee in Canada Life. After some time in the Corporate Actuarial department, I moved into a new role in the Pension Product Development department. Shortly before I qualified, I moved to Canada Life International Re, located in the IFSC where I took up the position of Valuation Actuary.
It was clear to me from the outset that the company is very receptive to the needs of their staff and many provisions are made by the company for trainee actuaries to continue their studies towards qualification including full payment of fees, tutorials and exams, generous study leave and a mentoring system.
