I graduated from University College Dublin in 2003 with a Bachelor of Actuarial and Financial Studies. In September 2003, I started working in Canada Life as a trainee actuary having completed two very enjoyable work placements in Canada Life while I was in college.
My actuarial career began in the Product Development Department. I was responsible for a variety of tasks including implementing new products on the administration and quotation systems, supporting the sales teams by providing technical information on the products and answering ad-hoc queries. It was great to be given the opportunity to be involved in a varied range of product developments during my time as a trainee.
I qualified as an actuary in 2005 and continued to gain more responsibility in the Product Development Department where I was actively involved in the design and pricing of a number of exciting product developments. In 2006, I moved into the Corporate Actuarial Department where I am now responsible for financial reporting for the Irish division of Canada Life.
During my time in Canada Life, I have had a varied and interesting experience and have been given the opportunity to learn a wide range of skills. There are a number of other recently qualified and trainee actuaries in Canada Life and I have made lots of good friends during my time here. I look forward to more challenging experiences with Canada Life over the coming years.
