Choice for your financial future
The Gateway Portfolio is all about choices for your money:
A choice of Asset Class
The Gateway Portfolio provides access to all of the major asset classes in one offering.
Cash
Investing in Cash as an asset class generally refers to investing in very shortdated money market instruments and provides lower risk than other asset classes with modest returns. Cash is often compared to leaving money on deposit at a bank. It is normally utilised by very risk averse investors or those investors who wish to protect the value of their investments.
Fixed Interest
Fixed interest securities or bonds as they are also known are essentially loans issued by governments or corporations to investors. They promise to pay interest on the loans at regular intervals and pay back the premium at some agreed future date. Generally bonds tend to be less volatile than the other major asset classes due to the certainty of the income flows, apart from cash. Bonds issued by corporations generally are more risky than those issued by governments. The level of risk depends on the creditworthiness of the issuer of the bond.
Property
Investing directly in commercial property is beyond the reach of most investors because of the large capital outlay and transaction costs involved. Investing in commercial property through property funds allows investors to benefit from the potential returns available through property without the commitment of large resources in terms of capital or time. Commercial property funds tend to invest in three main categories of property; office, retail or industrial. Investors should be aware that due to the fact that property assets are not as liquid as other asset types, restrictions may be imposed on transfers out of property funds from time to time.
Equities
Equities or stocks as they are also known represent units of ownership in a company. They are traded in stock markets like the Irish Stock Exchange or in other similar markets around the world. Stock prices go up and down on a daily basis but, despite these fluctuations have tended to have positive long-term returns but with greater volatility than the other asset classes.
Commodities
Commodities are a range of basic goods used in commerce that are interchangeable with other commodities of the same type. Commodities are most often used as inputs in the production of other goods and services. The sale and purchase of commodities is usually carried out through futures contracts, sold on exchanges that standardise the quantity and minimum quality of the commodity being traded. Some traditional examples of commodities include grains, gold, beef, oil and natural gas.
A choice of funds
Choose from a range of funds from the most cautious such as the Cash Fund, to a more diversified fund like Quadrivium, investing in all of the major asset classes, right through to more high risk funds investing solely in volatile assets such as equities, property or commodities. The key benefit behind unit-linked investments is the ability to create sophisticated, diversified portfolios, specific to your client's individual needs. This will ensure they maximise their potential returns while meeting their investment objectives.
The Gateway Portfolio's range of investment funds offers a broad range of diversification which can be used to create individual portfolios appropriate to all investors' needs. There are a wide range of funds available under The Gateway Portfolio, covering various levels of risk and asset classes.
